REMINDER:  RECYCLING IS MANDATORY!!

Recycling: The Town of Amherst contracts with Harter’s F.V. Disposal for garbage and recycling pickup.

Garbage and Recycling will continue to be picked up on Wednesdays except for the holiday weeks of Memorial Day and Labor Day, when it will be picked up on Thursdays.  Large Items will be picked up on the 3rd Tuesday of every month. The MRF (Material Recovery Facility) has been retrofitted to process recyclables in a single-stream. Mix recyclable containers and papers together in the same bin (no recyclables in plastic bags.) Rinse containers (don’t remove labels). Put caps and lids in the trash.

Recycle the following: Office paper, junk mail, envelopes, catalogs, magazines, newspapers, phonebooks, paperback books, and paper bags. Flatten all: paper egg cartons, containerboard, cardboard, rolls & tubes, aluminum (do not crush), steel, empty non-pesticide aerosols, glass jars and bottles and 1 & 2 plastic bottles & jugs.

Do NOT recycle: Plastic film shrink wrap or bags, brown 1 plastic, styrofoam containers, aluminum foil and baking pans, silverware, metal or plastic liners, motor oil containers, light bulbs, mirrors, window glass, ceramics, clay pots, tissue products, vinyl (siding, etc.)

Bring the following to the Transfer Facility at 650 Moore Rd., Plover, (l block N. of Hwy B East off of Apache Dr.): plastic 55-gal drums, large plastic furniture and toys, automotive fluids, appliances, electronics, fluorescent bulbs, ballasts, batteries, scrap metal, tires. Some have a fee; others are free. All are recycled.

The Transfer Facility/Recycling Site is open M-F 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; Sat. 7 :30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Scale office: 715-343-6297.
